McConkie's work was accomplished as follows: T he major portion of the work was compiled by Gale Tenney into a large binder approximately four inches thick. He, over a lengthy period of time, compiled these articles utilizing the periodical index's of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a nd other such reference books. I am grateful for Brother Tenney's love and search for truth that prompted him in this quest.\par \tab It was during the first week of July, 1991 that I became more closely acquainted with Brother Tenney and the extensive resources he has. It was during one of the conversations with Brother Tenney that he told me of the compilation he had undertaken. He graciously agreed to allow me to borrow the articles.\par \tab It was upon arrival at home that I became very interested and impressed with the spirit and clarity of the teachings of Elder McConkie as I read over some of his earliest works, f or they were of the same familiar spirit that attended the sermons and teachings of his latter days. At this point, I desired to have Elder McConkie's teachings in book form. Heidi M. Thompson, my wife, agreed to input the articles into our computer. Brother Tenney also consented to allow us the use of his compilation of articles.\par \tab For my part, I have sought to acquire those articles that were missing during this forty year period and make the work as comprehensive as possible. I also constructed the table of contents which outline Elder McConkie's works by year and topic. \par \tab Let this work stand as a testament of Jesus Christ, the only name under heaven by which mankind may come unto God and be saved, of which Elder Bruce R. McConkie's works testify, for he truly taught of Christ, rejoiced in Christ, and prophesied of Him. \par \tab Joseph Smith said, "the humble followers of Christ teach nothing but the doctrine." It is my belief, that Elder McConkie was such a person. Elder McConkie has stated his position regarding his writings and teachings in the Preface of }{\f34\ul The Promised Messiah, The First Coming of Christ}{\f34 , and this introduction will serve as the capstone of this introduction. He writes:\par }\pard \s2\qj\li1440\ri720\sl360 {\f34 \tab }{\i\f34 And so now, with holy zeal - having no private views to expound, no personal doctrines to set forth, no ideas that originate with me alone - I desire to present those things which will cause men of good will everywhere to believe in Him by whom salvation c omes.\par \tab This work is sent forth to persuade men to believe in Christ, to accept him as their Lawgiver, Savio r, and King, and to guide them in that course of obedience and devotion which will prepare them to enjoy his companionship forever in eternal glory. It deals with revealed truth as such is found in the Holy Scriptures. My objective is to interpret those scriptures by the power of that same Spirit which inspired the apostles and prophets who first recorded the eternal truths which in them are. And it is devoutly to be hoped that all who read and study the teachings here declared will ponder their deep import and seek wisdom from the one Source from which spiritual things can be known with perfect surety.\par \par \par \par \par \par \par \par \par \par \par }\pard \s2\qj\li720\sl360 {\f34\fs20 Introduction written by: Curt M.
